ABSTRACT

The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak was declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020 to be a pandemic and many drugs used at the beginning proved useless in fighting the infection. Lately, there has been approval of some new generation drugs for the clinical treatment of severe or critical COVID-19 infections. Nevertheless, more drugs are required to reduce the pandemic's impact. Several treatment approaches for COVID-19 were employed since the beginning of the pandemic, such as immunomodulatory, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial agents, and again corticosteroids, angiotensin II receptor blockers, and bradykinin B2 receptor antagonists, but many of them were proven ineffective in targeting the virus. So, the identification of drugs to be used effectively for treatment of COVID-19 is strongly needed. It is aimed in this review to collect the information so far known about the COVID-19 studies and treatments. Moreover, the observations reported in this review about carbazoles as a treatment can signify a potentially useful clinical application;various drugs that can be introduced into the therapeutic equipment to fight COVID-19 or their molecules can be used as the basis for designing new antivirals. © 2023 by the authors.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this work is to describe the organization and the experience gained by the COVID Special Unit of Potenza (Basilicata Region, Italy) in the months of activity in the Covid-19 emergency. It also describes how the use of IT tools has considerably simplified the territorial management of suspected and confirmed Covid19 cases. “Home hospitalization” has become the new model of assistance for the Potenza Unit, with a significant and modern use of telemedicine, self-monitoring and home medical-nursing assistance. Creating new perspectives within a reform of the National Health System for the future territorial management of non-critical Covid-9 patients is, therefore, the key message of our work.

ABSTRACT

The supplementary intake of vitamin D is one of the most debated topics in the medical field, a source of controversy and convictions that are also strongly antithetical. Both the judgment of clinicians and public opinion consider this vitamin necessary for the maintenance of bone health, but also for the prevention and treatment of a number of diseases, including diabetes mellitus, autoimmune diseases, neoplasms, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, stroke, depression and more association between low levels of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D. In fact, Vitamin D is responsible for regulation of calcium and phosphate metabolism and maintaining a healthy mineralized skeleton. It is also known as an immunomodulatory hormone. Experimental studies have shown that 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D, the active form of vitamin D, exerts immunologic activities on multiple components of the innate and adaptive immune system as well as endothelial membrane stability. Association between low levels of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D. Vitamin D plays a fundamental role in nutrition, especially for the new evidence related to the SARS pandemic Covid-19 and for this reason it is important to maintain optimal levels of the vitamin, controlled through food.
